Hegelian wisdom

The great (they say) and hard to understand (I don’t) and not gifted with good looks (IMHO) philosopher Hegel said, “It is a celebrated saying that a half philosophy leads away from God, while a true philosophy leads to God.” I can’t say I’m sure what he meant but I agree! My theory is that while some Christians seem to think philosophy is poison for the soul (and it can be) when taken in right measure it can be succour. How so? Because when you leave behind all the carry on, philosophy is really just a serious attempt at clear thinking about the things that matter most. But it doesn’t supply the raw material that revelation does; common grace can take us so far and no further. Without the Spirit of God we are lost. And BTW ICYWTK: it’s Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770-1831).
