Verbatim: Lawrence Krauss on the depths of philosophy and theology

Lawrence Krauss is a physicist and a big name on the New Atheist public speaking circuit. He’s the author of A Universe from Nothing. Last week he was interviewed in Melbourne for The Melbourne Anglican, forthcoming edition. Here’s a quote:

Interviewer: Is there a danger for a physicist wading into the depths of philosophy and theology?

Lawrence Krauss: No, because there are no depths of philosophy and theology. They are very shallow. I don’t wade into philosophy and theology, I don’t need to. That’s the whole point. You don’t need to know anything about philosophy or theology to do physics. Or to understand the universe.

Update: the whole interview is now available here in transcript and audio.
